I was playing Freelancer 3 weeks ago. But my ant-virus program scanned a virus. That's name was "PSW.OnlineGames" . I was playing Freelancer. No more game and i was playing only Hamburgcityserver.
I went to computer enginner. And he said:
-That virus came from Freelancer!
And he took a format. But virus didn't delete. It is in my computer and i cant lose it!
Everybody Be careful!
I think a lot of server has virus on Freelancer |

Before Windows was formatted, did you have Freelancer installed to a drive / partition other than the one Windows is on?
After formatting, did you reinstall Freelancer?
What was the source of the installation? An original CD or a burnt CD?
Were you running the HHC Mod when the virus was found? |

Not sure about if it was that virus message I got, but is the fíle maybe named debuglib.dll? then i guess it is the too soft configurated heuristik of antivir programm cause very many of us experied the same problem long ago - if this is the case, then you should disable the alert:
Zitat: | XV. Avira Antivir alert with debuglib.dll
The alert with debuglib.dll is a false positive from antivir, that means that there isnt a real virus in this file. You can disable the alert by adding debuglib.dll in extras->configuration->[X]Expert Mode->Guard->Search->Exceptions in "Not scanning file objects". The alert will also appear in a scan, so do the same thing with the scanner in the configuration. (Note that I have the german version of Antivir but guess you will find through even not all names/descriptions are the same how I translated Razz) |

I use AVG, not Avira.
But my problem can have or not have the same roots as turkish problem.
Still, it was a virus for sure - it was in sysvolume, windown dir and so on. I managed to kill it in the end.. Not for 100%, but he can't bypass my firewall so i don't rly care. |

Imposible , if you formated the WHOLE HDD the virus should have been deleted.
If you formated just the windows partition that means that the virus is on another partition.
If you wanna format again I suggest you format the WHOLE HDD. |

A virus is nothing more than code. If the computer engineer truly formatted your entire HD and started from scratch again (new Windows etc.) then one of the programs installed might be the source of the infection.
The chances of the HC mod being the cause of the virus are 0% - everybody would have to be affected. If your Freelancer distribution is legal then there's no way it's infected. If your distribution was illegal and you've been using it for some time without ever noticing anything the chances are slim it's the source of the infection.
Your computer engineer marked Freelancer as the source of infection, which makes me believe it's likely he considered the virus to be packed with an illegal download of the game as some beings love to involve in that kind of free time spending and the virus seems rather old. So, if you downloaded the game not too long ago from some p2p network or anything, there is a chance the virus came with the game and I'd suggest you get the game elsewhere. |
