Titel: Introduction of HF Adv. Barrier Shield
Verfasst am: 30.04.08 12:17
|
|
Again I would like to start a discussion about the introduction of the not yet available Advanced Barrier Shield for Very Heavy Fighters.
This shield is currently neither buyable nor lootable, but in my opinion it would be a very reasonable enhancement of the current situation.
At the moment some more or less standards have been established:
Eagle (any lvl 10 fighter) plus 1/2 Tizonas, 0/1/2 Kraken 2 and 3/4 Nomad Guns. Maybe 1 rocket (most rocket fighters use Lancers).
Of all lvl 10 fighters only a very low percentage of players use Skyblast B, Adv. Debilitators. There are a lot of lvl 9 guns, that are hardly used by players:
Buckshot
Firekiss Mk II
Hornviper Mk II
Reaver Mk II
Salamanca Mk II
Wyrm Type 2
These are 6 of 9 level 9 guns, i.e. 66% of unused guns.
The reason why these guns are not used is that they are de facto unefficient against the standard shield of level 10 very heavy fighters: the Advanced Brigandine Shield (Positron).
That's why we have atm a standard scenario of Eagle/Tiz/Kraken/Nomis/Adv.Brigandine ships.
In my opinion this is quite boring, sometimes also annoying.
I thought about some alternatives for this pabulum.
First let's have a look at the possibilities regarding shields. We also have the choice to take a
H.F. Adv. Protector (lvl 8, best Graviton, to buy as a combi package with Titan)
H.F. Barrier (lvl 9, best Molecular)
The Adv. Protector offers slightly better protection vs. Laser, Photon and Pulse than the Adv. Brigandine. For example if you shoot with one single Tizona at the Adv. Protector shield, this would break down after 5,93 shots. One Tizona needs "only" 5,56 shots to make the Adv. Bringadine collaps. After all both shields collaps after 6 hits of a single Tizona. This calculation helps you to understand the remark "slightly better protection".
Nomad guns are equal efficient to all kind of shields. This means the higher shield strength of the Adv. Brigandine offer much more protection against Nomad guns, than the Adv. Protector.
Even worse the Barrier shield: in most of the cases the Barrier, best currently available Molcecular shield, cannot match neither with the Adv. Brigandine nor with the level 8 Adv. Protector. That's why nobody uses it on a VHF.
So the only possibility to introduce some variety is to introduce the Adv. Barrier Shield!
I think making it lootable would be the easiest solution. The Bountyhunters in Theta could drop it instead of the LF (Adv.) Champion shield, with quite a low chance.
This would increase the users of other gun types and encourage the pilots for additional tests. I'm quite sure that the fight styles will also change and the aiming skill will be boosted by usage of e.g. Wyrm 2 or Firekiss MII.
To make it very clear:
currently the Adv. Brigandine Shield is definitly the BEST shield for any lvl 10 Fighter.
With the introduction of the Adv. Barrier shield you have the choice. Both shields have advantages and disadvantages against certain types of guns.
So there will be no kind of rush for the new best shield.
What's your opinion? |

Auf Deutsch - in aller Kürze:
ich plädiere für die Einführung des Adv. Barrier Schilds für Lvl 10 Fighter.
Grund:
Schiff: Seth, Adler, - selten Sabre, Titan
Schild: Adv.

I agree !
I had a look on the stats of this 2 shields on Battleclinic, both have exactly the same Shieldcapacity, Regen Rate and Regen Power Drain.
The Difference between those two Shields are the Strengths and Weaknesses versus various Types of Weapons.
The HF Adv. Barrier wouldnt completely ruin the Balance, but would add another Ingredience in the "Mix of PvP"
So the People would have to think about their Weapons, and maybe have some ships ready with other Combinations.
This, at least, would mix some other colors into the Weaponsfire...
PS: following is just a Hint/Suggestion by me...
I would suggest, to divert the two shields between Corsairs and Outcast, like: The Corsairs sell the Adv.Brigandine(Positron) - the Outcast sell the Adv.Barrier(Molecular), or the other way round...
Those two Factions are nnot exactly Enemies, but Rivals is a good Description i think. So it would be, at least, "possible" that both would use different Equipment.
AND NOW: lets have a healthy Discussion |

The Adv. Barrier wouldnt be so much used but easy to implement whitout any modupdates or so on i think.
So , why not ? See no problem with it . |

Actually I like the idea.
There were some other suggestions lately about bringing more RPG to the game. For example the idea of Corsair/Outcast ships equipped with corsair/outcast guns, which are meant to get higher rewards in combat missions. So this is another good way how to support diversity in the game.
Few ppl ever thought about effects of different guns on different shield types. I think most of ppl will still use classic set up consisting of nomad guns. There has been mentioned a way how to get this shield. You suggested a harder way how to get it (less drop probability on Bounty Hunter ships), why? Why not to add this shield to each omicron base equipment store for example? We would have 2 comparable types of shield. Ppl could pick one as their own decision, yet we know that nomads are effective against all shield types.
To sum it up, I'm for it |

I don't think, that most of the players think about the accurate effect of different shield/weapon types.
And yes it's boring, you're right!
We should give it a chance, probably it will enhance our fights and make it more interesting.
btw why should sb use a Hornviper Mk II or Reaver Mk II?
skyb is much more better |
